The 5th Annual Nevin Lectures: Amos Yong

Receiving a Pentecostal Witness: Toward an Ecumenism of the Spirit for the Third Millennium

In February of 2018, Amos Yong of Fuller Seminary explained the challenges and possibilities for a Pentecost catholicity for the 21st century world Christian movement.

Glenn Davis, Vickie Gaston, and Mark DeVine offered responses to his lectures.

Peter Leithart led worship (download the liturgy HERE), and pianist/composer Smith Leithart played two selections by J.S. Bach.

Attendees from Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Baptist, and non-denominational churches gathered to enjoy common worship, conversation, and friendly debate.

The Nevin Lectures are named for German-American theologian John Williamson Nevin, a catholic-minded Reformed theologian of the nineteenth century. Each year, Theopolis invites a Nevin Lecturer from outside our own tradition to explain their tradition in their own terms.

In February 2019, we will host Michael Sorrell (Paul Quinn College) as our sixth Nevin Lecturer. Keep an eye on the web site for further details.

This event was held in February of 2018 at the Avon Theater in downtown Birmingham, AL.

This download includes 3 Lectures from Amos Yong, as well as the responses from Glenn Davis, Vickie Gaston, and Mark DeVine.
