Robert Louis Wilken is professor emeritus at the University of Virginia, where he was William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of the History of Christianity for many years. He is a past President of the American Academy of Religion, a founding member of the American Patristics Society, and the author of over a dozen books, including The First Thousand Years: A Global History of Christianity.
