PRESIDENT'S ESSAY
Translation, 1 Kings 8
POSTED
October 18, 2004

Then assembled Shlomoh the elders of Israel
All the heads of the tribes
The chiefs of the fathers to the sons of Israel
To the king Shlomoh in Jerusalem.
To cause to ascend the coffer of the covenant of Yahweh
From the city of David, that is, Zion.
And they assembled to the king Shlomoh
All the men of Israel
In the month of the Ethanim
On the feast, that is, the seventh month.
And entered all the elders of Israel
And bore the priests the coffer.
And they caused to ascend
the coffer of Yahweh
And the tent of meeting
And all the holy instruments, which were in the tent
And they caused them to ascend, the priests and the Levites.
And the king Shlomoh and all the congregation of Israel
Who congregated in front of him
With him to the face of the coffer
Sacrificing flock animals and herd animals
Which were not counted up
And were not allowed to be counted
From numerousness.
Then the priests caused to enter the coffer of the covenant of Yahweh to its place
To the Debir of the house
To the holy place of the holy places
To under the wings of the cherubim.
For the cherubim were spreading wings to the place of the coffer
And covered the cherubim over the coffer and over its poles from above.
And extended the poles
And were seen the heads of the poles from the holy place
Over the face of the Debir
But they were not seen the outside
And they are there until this day.
There was not in the coffer except the two tablets of stone
Which Moses caused to rest there in Horeb
Which Yahweh cut with the sons of Israel in their coming out from the land of Mizraim.
And it was in the coming out of the priests from the holy place
But the cloud filled the house of Yahweh.
But the priests did not finish
to stand to serve
from the face of the cloud
For filled the glory of Yahweh the house of Yahweh.

Then said Shlomoh
?Yahweh said
to dwell
in the gloom
Building I have built
a house a lofty-dwelling for you
A place for your enthronement (for) ages.
Then turned the king his face
And blessed all the assembly of Israel
And all the assembly of Israel standing.
And he said,
?Blessed be Yahweh God of Israel
who spoke by His mouth, David my father
And by his hand fills/fulfills saying,
?From the day which I caused to come out My people Israel from Mizraim
I did not choose in a city from all the tribes of Israel
To build a house to be My Name there
And I chose in David to be over My people Israel.?E
?And it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name
of Yahweh God of Israel
?And said Yahweh to David my father,
?Because which it was with your heart to built a house for my name
You did well for it was with your heart
Except you yourself shall not built the house
for if (but) your son who comes out from your loins
that one shall build the house for my name.?E
?And Yahweh caused to stand up his word which he spoke
And I was caused to stand up in the place of David my father
And I sit on the throne of Israel
Just as spoke Yahweh
And I built the house for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel.
And I set there a place for the coffer
Which there the covenant of Yahweh
Which he cut with our fathers
In his causing them to come out (when He brought them out)
From the land of Mizraim.?E

And stood Shlomoh before the face of the slaughter-site of Yahweh
Opposite all the assembly of Israel
And he spread his palms to the heavens.
And he said,
?Yahweh God of Israel
There is not like you gods in the heavens above or on the earth beneath
Guarding the covenant and the lovingkindness
To all your servants who walk before you with all their hearts.
Who (which you) guarded to your servant David my father
Which you spoke to him
And you spoke to him with your mouth
And with your hand you have filled as at this day.
?Now You yourself, Yahweh God of Israel
Guard to your servant David my father
Which you spoke to him, saying,
?I will not cut to you a man from before My face
Sitting on the throne of Israel
Except if your sons guard their way
To walk before My face
Just as you walked before My face.?E
?Now your yourself, God of Israel,
Let be confirmed, please, Your word
Which you spoke to Your servant David my father.
?For will really God be enthroned on earth?
Behold, the heavens and the heaven of heavens do not hold You
Even for this house which I built.
?Now face toward the prayers of your servant
and his supplications
Yahweh my God
To hear to the cry
and to the prayer which your servant prays before your face today.
To be your eyes opening to this house night and day
To the place which you said,
?My name will be there.?E
To hear to the prayer which your servant prays
to this place.
And hear to the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel
Which they pray to this place
And now, hear to the place of your enthronement to the heavens
And hear
And forgive.

?Which sins a man to his neighbor
and lends on it a curse for its/his curses
and enters a curse before the face of the altar in this house
Then you yourself hear in heavens
And do
And judge your servants
To condemn the condemnable to give his way on his head
And to justify the just to give to him according to his justice.

?In the being smitten of your people Israel before the face of an enemy
which they sinned to you
and they turn to you
and confess your name
and pray
and plead for grace to you in this house
Then you yourself hear in heavens
And forgive to the sin of your people Israel
And cause them to turn to the ground
which you gave to their fathers.

?In the being shut of the heavens
and rain is not because they sin to you
And they pray to this place
And confess
your name
And from their sins
They turn
For you subdue them.
Then you yourself hear the heavens
And forgive to the sin of your servants and of your people Israel
For you teach the way of good which they walk in it
And give them rain on the land
Which you gave to your people for an inheritance.

?Famine, for it will be in the land
plague, for it will be
scorching,
green-blight
locust
cockroach, for it will be
for it fashions to him his enemy in the land his gates
every stroke/plague
every sickness
Every prayer, every plea for grace which till be to every man
To all your people Israel
Which they shall know each the stroke/plague to his own heart
And he spreads his palms to this house
And Your Yourself hear in the heavens the place of Your enthronement
And you forgive
And you do
And you give
To each according to all his ways which you know his heart
For You Yourself alone know the hearts of all the sons of men.
In order that they may fear You all the days
Which they (are) living on the face of the ground
which You gave to their fathers.

?Also to the foreigner
which (is) not from Your people Israel
He and he comes from a distant land on account of Your name
For they will year Your great Name
and Your strong hand
And Your arm outstretched
And he comes and he prays to this ho use
You Yourself hear in the heavens the place of Your enthronement
And do according to all which he calls to you, the foreigner
In your that all the people of the land may know Your name
To fear You as Your people Israel
and to know for Your name is called over this house which I built.

?For go out Your peop le to war against his enemy
in the way which You send them
And they pray to Yahweh in the way of the city
Which Your chose on her
And the house which I built to Your name:
You hear in the heavens their prayer and their plea for grace
And You do their judgment.

?For they will sin to you
for there is not a man which does not sin
and You are angry against them
And you given them before the fact of the enemy
And the ones who turn them turn them to the land of the enemy
Distant or near
And they turn to their heart in the land
which they have been turned there
and they cause to turn to their heart
in the which they have been turned there
and they turn and plead for grace to You
in the land of their turning, saying
?We have sinned
And we have done wrong
We have made ourselves guilty?E
And they turn to You
In all their heart
And in all their soul
In the land of their enemies which they turned them
And they pray to You in the way of their land
which You gave to their fathers
the city which You chose
And the house which I built for Your name
You hear in the heavens the place of Your enthronement
their prayers
and their please for mercy
And do their judgment.
And forgive to Your people which sinned to You
And to all their rebellion which they rebelled against You
And give them to wombs/compassion
Before the face of the ones who turn them
And they will have compassion on them.
For Your people and Your inheritance they are
Which you caused to come out from Mizraim
From the midst of the iron furnace.
To be Your eyes open to the plea for grace of Your servant
And to the plea for grace of Your people Israel
To hear to them in all their calling to You.
For You Yourself caused them to be separate to Yourself
To Your inheritance from all the peoples of the earth
Just as Your spoke by the hand of Mosheh Your servant
In your causing to come out our Fathers from Mizraim
Master Yahweh.
And for Israel His people.
And it happened according to finishing of Shlomoh to pray to Yahweh
All this prayer
And pleas-for-grace
He arise from before the face of the slaughter-site of Yahweh
From kneeling on his knees
And his palms spreading to the heavens
And he stood
And he blessed all the assembly of Israel, a great voice, saying,
?Blessed be Yahweh
Which gave rest to His people Israel
According to all which he spoke.
Did not fall a one speaking/word
From all his good speaking/word
Which he spoke by the hand of Mosheh his servant.
May Yahweh our Elohim (be) with us
According to which he was with our fathers
May he not leave us and may he not forsake us
To incline our hearts to Him
To walk in all shi ways
And to guard His commandments
And His statutes
And His judgments
Which He commanded our fathers.
And may these words be
Which I plea-for-grace before the face of Yahweh
Near-bringings to Yahweh our Elohim day and night
To do judgment of his servant and judgment of his people Israel
The thing of a day in its day.
In order that may know all the peoples of the land
For Yahweh, He is Elohim.
There is not another.
And may your heart be complete/pacified with Yahweh our Elohim
To walk in His statutes
And to guard His commandments
According to this day.

Then the king and all Israel with Him sacrificed sacrifices before the face of Yahweh.
And sacrificed Shlomoh sacrifices of peace
Which he sacrificed to Yahweh
22,000 herd animals
and 120,000 flock animals.
And they dedicated the house of Yahweh, the king and all the sons of Israel.
In that day consecrated the king the midst of the inner court
Which (was) before the face of the house of Yahweh.
For he did there the ascension
And the tribute
And the fat of the peace
For the slaughter-site of bronze
Which (was) before the face of Yahweh
Small from holding
The ascension
And the tribute
And the fat of the peace.

The made Shlomoh in that time the feast
And all Israel with Him
A great assembly
from the entrance of Chamat until the wadi of Mizraim
before the face of Yahweh our Elohim
seven days, and seven days, fourteen days.
On the eighteen day he sent the people
And they blessed the king
And they walked to their tents
Joyful
And good of heart
Over all the good which Yahweh did
For David his servant
