PRESIDENT'S ESSAY
Translation, 1 Kings 11
POSTED
November 11, 2004

Now the King Shlomoh loved women,
Foreign ones,
Many.
And the daughter of Pharaoh.
Moabiyyot
Ammanoyyot
Adomyyot
Tzedniyyot
Chittiyyot
From the nations which Yahweh said to the sons of Israel,
?You shall not enter into them
And they shall not enter into you.
Truly they will turn away your heart after their gods.?E
To these Shlomoh cleaved with love.
Now there were to him women, princesses, 700
And concubines, 300.
And his wives turned away his heart.

And it was at the time of old age of Shlomoh
His wives caused to turn away his heart after other gods.,
And his heart was not complete with Yahweh his God
As the heart of David his father.
And walked Shlomoh after Ashtoret goddess of Tzidoniym
And after Milkom the detestable-thing of Ammoniym.
And did Shlomoh the evil in the eyes of Yahweh.
And he was not filled after Yahweh as David his father.
Also built Shlomoh a high place
for KeMosh the detestable-thing of Moav
On the mountain which is before the face of Jerusalem.
And for Molek the detestable-thing of the sons of Ammon.
And thus he did for all his wives, the foreign ones,
Turning-to-smoke
And sacrificing
To their gods.

And angry was Yahweh against Shlomoh
For turned was his heart from-with Yahweh the Elohim of Israel,
Who appeared to him two times.
And he commanded to him about this thing
Not to walk after other gods
And he did not guard
(that) which Yahweh commanded.

And said Yahweh to Shlomoh,
?Because which this thing is with you
And you did not guard My covenant and my ordinances
Which I commanded over you
Tearing I will tear the kingdom from you
And it shall be given to your servant.
But in your days I will not do it because David your father.
From the hand of your son I will tear it.
Also, all the kingdom I will not tear.
One tribe I will give to your son because of David My servant.
And because of Jerusalem which I have chosen.?E

And Yahweh caused to rise satan to Shlomoh
Even Hadad the Adomiy,
From the seed of the king he was in Edom.
And it was in the being of David (in) Edom
In the ascending of Joab chief of the hosts to bury the dead
And he struck every male in Edom
For six months Joab dwelt there
and all Israel
Until every male was cut off in Edom.
And fled Adad, he and his men, Adomiyiym
From the servants of his father with him to enter Mizraim
Now Hadad was a young lad.
And they arose from Midyan
and entered Paran
and took men with them from Paran
And entered Mizraim to Pharaoh king of Mizraim.
And he gave to him a house
And bread said to him
And land he gave to him.
And found Hadad grace in the eyes of Pharaoh, very much,
And he gave to him a wife,
the sister of his wife,
the sister of Tachpeneys the great lady.
And she bore to him, the sister of Tachpeneys, Genubath his son
And Tachpeneys weaned him in the midst of the house of Pharaoh.
And Genubath was in the house of Pharaoh in the midst of the sons of Pharaoh.
Now Hadad heart in Mizraim
For David slept with his fathers
And for Joab, the chief of the hosts, died
And Hadad said to Pharaoh,
?Send me
And I will walk to my land.?E
And said to him Pharaoh,
?For what are you as one-who-lacks with me?
Now behold, you are seeking to walk to your land.
And he said,
?No.
For sending, you shall send me.?E

And raised up Elohim to him a satan, even Rezon son of Elyada
Who fled from Hadadezer king of Tzovah his master.
And he gathered to him men
And he was chief of a raiding-party
In David?s slaying them
And they walked (to) Dammeseq
And they dwelt in her
And they ruled in Dammeseq.
And he was satan to Israel all the days of Shlomoh
And the evil which Hadad
And he abhorred Israel
And he reigned over Aram.

Now Yarav?am son of Nevat, an Efrati from Tzeredah
Now the name of his mother (was) Tzeru?ah,
wife of Elmanah
servant to Shlomoh
And he lifted a hand against the king.
Now this is the word/thing which caused (him) to lift his hand against king Shlomoh:
He built the Millo
Closed up the breach of the city of David his father.
Now the man Yarav?am (was) a might man of substance
And Shlomoh saw the young man
For a doer of work (was) he
And he appointed him to all the burden of the house of Yosef.
And it was in this time
And Yarav?am went out from Jerusalem
And found him Achiyyah the Shiloni the prophet in the way
Now he covered himself in a mantle, a fresh one
Now the two of them alone in the field.
And Achiyyah took hold on the mantle, the fresh one which was on him
And he tore it into twelve tearings.
And he said to Yarav?am,
?Take for yourself ten tearings
For thus says Yahweh the Elohim of Israel,
?Behold tearing the kingdom from the hand of Shlomoh
I give to you ten tribes.
But the one tribe will be for him
On account of My servant David and on account of Jerusalem
The city which I have chosen
In all the tribes of Israel.
Because which they forsook me
And have prostrated themselves
To Ashtoreth goddess of Tzidoniyn
To Chemosh god of Moab
And to Milkom god of the sons of Ammon
And they have not walked in my ways
To do the upright-thing in My eyes
And My statutes and My judgements
As David his father.
But I will not take all the kingdom from his hand
For a prince I will appoint him all the days of his life
On account of David my servant which I chose him
Who guarded My commandments and My ordinances.
But I will take the kingdom from the hand of his son
And I will give her to you, even ten tribes.
Now to his son I will give one tribe
In order that a lamp might be for David My servant
all the days before Me
In Jerusalem the city which I chose for him
To set My name there.
But you I take and you shall reign-as-king
Over all which your soul craves (desires-as-lovely)
And you shall be king over Israel.
And it will be if you hear all which I command you
And you walk in My ways
And you do the upright-thing in My eyes
To guard My ordinances and My commandments
Just as did David My servant
And I will be with you
And I will build for you a house of endurance
Just as I built for David
And give to you Israel.
And I will afflict the seed of David on account of this
Only not all days.?E

And sought Shlomoh to cause-death to Yarav?am.
And Yarav?am arose
And fled (to) Mizraim, to Shiyshaq, king of Mizraim
And he was in Mizraim until the death of Shlomoh.

Now the remainder of the words/things of Shlomoh
And all which he did and his wisdom
As they not written on the Book of the Things of Shlomoh.
And slept Shlomoh with his fathers
And he was buried in the city of David his father.
And reigned-as-king Rechav?am his son in his place.
