Scott Fairbanks writes to note parallels between the trial of Jesus and the murder of Abel.  He says:

Two brothers:

Barabbas is the son of the father, while Jesus is the son of God.

Each is an offering. One offering is willful, while the other is reluctant.

Like Abel, Jesus says nothing, vs 12.

Like Abel,  jealousy/envy ( pthonon ) motivates the murder of Jesus 27:18.

Like the archetypal offering scene, food is in view 27:15.

The people and Pilate each partially assumes and perverts the role of God. And each partially assumes the role of Cain. They both pervert justice. They both play a role in killing the acceptable offerer away from the place of judgement, in the field.
