The year 2024 marks the 500th anniversary of the publication of the first Lutheran hymnals, first in Wittenberg, then in Erfurt.
Informed by a millennium of the Church singing that had benefited Luther and his colleagues, these publications were the beginning of a half-millennium of Protestant music, music that in turn re-tuned the world of non-Protestant composers.
The Theopolis Institute and Immanuel Reformed Church are pleased to announce a special lecture on this topic by Ken Myers of Mars Hill Audio.
Join us at 9 am on July 15, 2024, at Third Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama, for Myers's special pre-conference lecture, “Hymns, Hymnals, and the Church’s Musical Life and Legacy: Why 1524 Is As Significant As 1517."
