Time: 7:30 PM
Place: Third Presbyterian Church, Birmingham

The beauty of J. S. Bach's masterpiece for keyboard, the Goldberg Variations, arises from the composer's boundless creativity perfectly constrained by the discipline of its musical form. Comprising an Aria and 30 variations, in this work Bach presents his entire conception of music in microcosm.

Come and let the profound combination of the brilliance of technical virtuosity and the peace of gentle intimacy, in the words of Bach himself, give glory to God and refreshment to your spirit.

The Performer

Nathan Davy serves as the Associate Director of Music and organist at Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas. He earned the D.M.A. in organ performance as well as the prestigious Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he studied with David Higgs, Edoardo Bellotti and Michel Bouvard. He concertizes regularly in Dallas and throughout the country, to such rave reviews as “if you’re going to play Mendelssohn, you should really listen to German lieder sometime” from one local music critic. Dr. Davy specializes in the music of J. S. Bach.

Instead of having a normal midlife crisis he decided to learn and perform Bach’s Goldberg Variations. He has thought many times over the past year and a half that he should have bought a motorcycle like a normal person instead.

Dr. Davy lost the citywide spelling bee as an elementary school student when he misspelled the word “dumbbell.” He now coaches weight training at his son’s high school.

He aspires one day to have a beard worthy of Brahms, instead of one of the brothers Karamozov.

This event is co-sponsored by Immanuel Reformed Church in Birmingham, AL.
