In the pouring out of the Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, there is a confluence of several typological tributaries.
It is God's answer to Babel, a new giving of the Law, the filling of a new temple, the anointing of a prophet, and much besides.
In addition to drawing from such developing typologies, Pentecost is anticipated and foretold in many Old Testament promises and prophecies—Isaiah, Ezekiel, Joel, Jeremiah, and Zechariah, among others.
It is an integral part of the work of Christ that begins with the incarnation. It offers us paradigms for thinking about the Church, Christian mission, and Christian identity.
It is an event with far-reaching ramifications for our thought about God, the person of the Spirit, salvation, the Church, the future, the Christian life, spiritual gifts and ministry, politics and society, and many other areas.
Within this course, Alastair Roberts will lead students in an extensive and intensive exploration of the biblical witness concerning Pentecost.
Integrating many threads of Scripture, this course will give students a firmer grasp upon the unity and interconnectedness of the Bible, and will equip them to follow its implications for our theology and practice.

The course will meet for five Saturdays (October 11, 25, November 1, 8, 15), starting at 8 am Central.
